I once described my career to my son's kindergarten class by saying, "I help people tell better stories and draw better pictures." They got it.
In my work, the stories have had names like vision-mission-values statements, brand strategies, or integrated marketing communications plans. Some have been campaigns, social media frameworks, speeches, and of course, actual stories.
The pictures are frequently photography and video. But they might also be events or experiences, flow charts, infographics or idea maps. And, if it can’t otherwise be avoided, PowerPoint presentations.
While much of my work has focused on the production of artifacts — pieces of communication and the plans to communicate them — my true passion is helping people uncover the stories behind the story. Revealing insight so they can imagine (or literally see) the picture more clearly.
I listen productively. I advise collaboratively. I help people think more effectively by thinking more creatively, and more strategically.
I help people have better ideas — and a better idea of what to do with them.
